Safety and efficacy are of the utmost importance when it comes to the medicines that we are taking. Whether they are used for treating specific conditions, maintaining good overall health, supplementing vital nutrients, or achieving certain aesthetics, all the drugs, vitamins, and supplements that are on the market undergo a rigorous approval process. Medicines are meant to help, not harm, but the risk of experiencing adverse effects is always there due to differences in a lot of factors such as genetics, age, gender, etc. To ensure that these risks are minimized, proper knowledge about how they work and how to take them is required. Especially today, where oral drugs and supplements are climbing the trend in the beauty industry, we want the things that we take to provide consumers with the needed results with the least risk of side or adverse effects. Take melasma treatment, Pynocare, for example. It is one of the few melasma-targeting oral medicines on the market, and while its results may be satisfactory, as the clinical trial has proven, some people may still wonder, “Is Pynocare safe to take?”

Pynocare is the only FDA-approved oral melasma drug in the Philippines. It contains a mix of ingredients that target specific pathways to reduce melasma in the affected areas. Melasma is a common skin disorder in most women, especially pregnant women; hence, it is referred to as the “mask of pregnancy.” Although melasma does not pose any serious health risks, it may be a contributing factor to lowered self-esteem for some people. Melasma is expected to fade away on its own after pregnancy, but for some women, the case may be different. This is why many are still seeking that holy-grail for treating their current situation.

Diagnosing Melasma

Before any treatment is taken, it is important to ensure a proper diagnosis. For dermatologists to diagnose melasma, they need to visually examine the skin. Dermatologists may also use specialized tools like a Wood’s lamp or dermatoscope to know how deeply it has gotten into the skin, as this is vital to know when choosing which treatments to use.

In some cases where melasma looks like some other skin disorder, dermatologists may perform a skin biopsy to make sure that every other skin disorder is ruled out. This process requires the dermatologist to take a small sample of the skin to be used for testing.

Pynocare for Melasma Treatment

Pynocare is an oral depigmentation drug that combines natural plant (Procyanidin from French Maritime Pine bark) and algae (D. salina as vitamin A) extracts with vitamins C and E, making it a good source of powerful antioxidants with strong anti-inflammatory properties. These ingredients work together to protect cells from oxidative stress, a known trigger for melasma, and inhibit unnecessary inflammatory activities that could exacerbate melasma.

Pynocare is clinically proven to reduce the appearance of melasma within 8 to 12 weeks of continuous use. The recommended dosage is 1 tablet twice a day throughout the duration of the treatment. It can also be taken to prevent the development and recurrence of melasma, with a recommended dosage of 1 tablet once a day.

Is Pynocare Safe?

Is Pynocare safe? The short answer is yes. Being the first-ever FDA-approved oral treatment for melasma, it has gone through extensive tests and approval, thus making it 100% safe to use without any serious side effects. Data from clinical trials such as the one conducted in the Philippines with 60 female adults experiencing melasma suggests that Pynocare resulted in a significant decrease in the degree of pigmentation compared to placebo. The study also noted that no serious adverse effects were experienced by the study participants except for one who developed a metallic taste, which is likely due to an allergy to one of the ingredients. In addition, no minor side effects such as diarrhea, headache, dizziness, or fatigue were noted.

However, in very rare cases, it may cause minor stomach discomfort, especially if taken on an empty stomach, so taking Pynocare with a meal is suggested.

Can I Take Pynocare During Pregnancy?

Melasma is dubbed the “mask of pregnancy” because of its high occurrence rate during pregnancy. The urge to combat this by taking oral medication is strong; however, a consultation with a doctor or physician is strongly advised. And while Pynocare is proven safe, as a precaution, it is still not suggested to be taken during pregnancy or within the first three months of lactation.

The use of topical treatments should also be carefully assessed, as some topical agents have the probability of being absorbed systemically and causing unwanted side effects.

What are Its Other Benefits?

Pynocare is formulated with specific ingredients that work with each other to reduce the appearance of melasma and inhibit the pathways that cause skin discoloration. Pynocare has powerful antioxidant properties, protecting the skin from the effects of environmental stress. Below are the benefits of its active ingredients:

Beta-carotene. Also known as vitamin A, it helps improve the skin’s natural barrier and promotes natural moisturizing. It helps maintain a healthy dermis and epidermis and fade dark spots easily, by providing nourishment from deep within the skin. It is derived from D. salina extract, a type of algae known for its rich beta-carotene content.

Ascorbic acid. Also known as vitamin C, it is a common and popular ingredient in most skincare products. Vitamin C has antioxidant and skin-brightening effects on the skin that help reduce skin redness, and can help fade hyperpigmentation on the skin.

D-alpha-tocopheryl acetate. It is a form of vitamin E and is known to have antioxidant properties that can help protect the skin from sun damage caused by UV exposure.

Procyanidin. Derived from the bark of French maritime pine, procyanidin has antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties, making it a good option for treating forms of hyperpigmentation such as melasma, especially when combined with vitamins A, C, and E.

Things to Remember:

  • The UV rays coming from the sun are a major factor and contributor to skin The use of sun protection such as sunscreen, sunblock, and protective clothing is essential and can also aid in treating melasma or other forms of hyperpigmentation.
  • Recurrence is common and may still happen, especially after sun re-exposure. Taking Pynocare long-term can be beneficial in treating recurrence and slowing down the skin’s aging
  • Medicines are meant to help, not harm. Proper use and guidance in taking drugs should be implemented to ensure patients’ Talk to your physician prior to taking any type of medication and immediately report any adverse effects.
  • Follow your physician’s or pharmacist’s advice on how to properly take your Inform them of any preexisting conditions or other medications being taken to minimize side effects and reduce the risk of adverse events.
